Whale Watching, or not.....

Lighthouse

This past Friday, we went to Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma to go whalewatching. It was quite windy, and as a result, many whitecaps, and we were unable to see any whales. However, it was well worth the visit for the view alone. We hiked up the hill to the lighthouse, from which there is a looking point that looks out over the ocean. And, what a view!!! Point Loma comes to a point, so you are able to see downtown San Diego framed by the Cuyamaca mountains, the Pacific ocean, Mexico to the south, the US Navy's Pacific fleet, the harbor, the lighthouse. Due to the winds, it was a very clear day, and you see very far. There is an exhibit area which highlights Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's discovery of the area, and we also saw a film about the migrating grey whales, which was very good. There's also a very nice gift shop, with many books and resources about the San Diego area, the whales, the plants, Cabrillo. My only wish was that we could have seen the whales, maybe next year!

That's too bad you didn't see any whales. The first and last time we went to see whales was with the in-laws here in Mass. Not only that we didn't see any whales but everyone got sea sick. So that's why it was the first and last time. ;-)

Last time we went on a boat to whale watch, Violet & I took dramamine and were both so konked out we wouldn't have seen any whales anyway. Fortunately, this time was from shore....

Maybe we can try again on a less windy day! Or are they gone now?

I have only seen Dolphins in the wild...and that was quite by accident...
My sister and I were walking along the St. PEte's beach in Florida, and as we were walking along a school of dolphins came up onlong side us girls... They were a few feet awy from us as we were walking knee deep... we watched them jump... and then terror struch my sister who thought they were sharks and began to scream...
scaring our wee friends away...
I would love to go whale watching ...
On my list of things I would like to experience in my lifetime...
